What is subrogation (and waivers)?

The carrier’s right to recover a paid claim from the party responsible. Contracts often require you to waive subrogation in favor of clients — done by endorsement, and your carrier needs to agree.

Why it matters

After paying your claim, a carrier can pursue whoever caused the loss — that is subrogation. Client contracts often demand you waive it. Most policies permit waivers if agreed before a loss, but the endorsement has to be in place; a signature alone is not enough.
