The maximum payable for any single claim, including (on most forms) its defense costs.
Why it matters
The per-claim number is what one dispute can draw. Contracts usually specify it (“$1M per claim”), and carriers price most sharply on it. If a single engagement could plausibly cost more than your per-claim limit, that engagement is telling you your limit.
