What is claims-made policy?
Coverage triggered by when a claim is made against you (and reported), not when the work occurred. Nearly all E&O is claims-made — which is why continuity, retroactive dates, and tail coverage dominate professional liability decisions.
Why it matters
Almost all professional liability is written claims-made: the policy that pays is the one in force when the claim is made, not when the work happened. That makes continuous coverage and your retroactive date critically important — a gap can strand old work without protection.
